These are things I've experienced that you ought to take a look at, too! It's amazing stuff!

to read

The Perks of Being a WallflowerStephen ChboskyProbably the best book I've ever read. One year of Charlie's life, as told by him in letters.
A Medicine for MelancholyRay BradburyA collection of realistic short stories that examine different aspects of society, and how things might end up.
Someplace to Be FlyingCharles de LintA sci-fi/fantasy type book about urban folklore. Charles de Lint writes good stuff.
The GiverLois LowryThe Giver is about a boy named Jonas who lives in another time and place, in a very well-ordered community, and the beginning of his adulthood. (I don't want to give it away!)
Fight Club and Invisible MonstersChuck PalahniukRead anything by Chuck Palahniuk. It's all wunnerful. You've probably heard about Fight Club; Invisible Monsters is about a model who gets her jaw shot off and goes on a road trip with a woman named Brandy Alexander.
The ProphetKahlil GibranPoetic philosophical musings. Read it.

to see

Requiem for a DreamThe story of 4 people and their experience with drugs. The most powerful, shocking thing I've ever seen; it's amazing.
Empire RecordsThe employees of a record store have to fight to save the Empire... if you haven't seen this, GO RENT IT!
girlComing-of-age type deal... but it's not your stereotypical story. It's hilarious.
The Fifth ElementCamp(but great) sci-fi type thing. Bruce Willis is great... I don't know, the movie is just so cute! And funny as hell.
Princess MononokeAmazing animation - it's about man's exploitation of the forest, and the forest spirits' fight to save themselves and their home.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden DragonOne word: BEAUTIFUL. Prettypretty Chinese movie, with beautiful effects and a very traditional Chinese feeling. The fighting scenes are SO well choreographed and executed.
ChocolatJust a feel-good movie about a chocolaterie, set in France(ooh!). It's about a very conservative town during Lent and their reaction to the opening of this chocolaterie.
AmélieYOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE. It's about a girl named Amélie, and it's the best movie ever. She decides to help people out, and that's all I'm gonna tell you, because you have to watch it for yourself. :)

to hear

Album TitleArtistSound
Mer de NomsA Perfect CircleMaynard has the most beautiful voice... the mood goes from mournful to angry, but it's really good music all the way through.
(any!)IncubusIncubus has their own sound. They go from techno-ish to almost hardcore. All of their albums are a good mix.
Becoming XSneaker PimpsTechno - great lyrics and vocals.
Requiem for a Dream SoundtrackClint Mansell, the Kronos QuartetI guess this classifies as... techno? Trance? I don't know. It's all the incidental music from the movie. I can't listen to it enough. It goes from violins over digital effects to sounds of waves with people screaming in the background(which is better than it sounds here).
Bring Your Own StereoJimmie's Chicken ShackGood waking up music... peppy, singable-to, etc. And... they're local!
GodsmackGodsmackGood hardcore with nifty sound bytes.
The White Ponythe DeftonesFantastic hardcore... the deftones are just... the deftones. They do their own thing. This album is great.
Bleed AmericanJimmy Eat WorldI think that they actually changed the name of the album after September 11, so I don't know what it's called now. But it's great pop-rock, accessible for anyone, and it's got energy and emotion behind it.
